Pentagon Sailing Club Code of Conduct

Pentagon Sailing Club (PSC) members hail from all military services, the U.S. Government at every level, and includes civilians that share the value of service.

The United States has always held those invested with the nation’s special trust and confidence to a higher moral standard and ethical conduct.  These standards are reflected in the way members of the Club are expected to conduct themselves.

PSC Membership is a privilege and with that privilege comes responsibilities.  The most important of these is the safe and courteous treatment of our members and their guests whether they are involved with PSC events ashore or on the water.  PSC Members are responsible for their own conduct and that of their family and guests. It is unacceptable for any member or guest to mistreat a fellow member, guest, or other person verbally or otherwise.

Any Club member, family member, or guest whose conduct is deemed by another Club member as improper or inappropriate, likely to endanger the welfare, safety, harmony, Club reputation, or other members’ experience of the Club should be reported to the PSC Bridge for investigation and potential disciplinary action.

The PSC Bridge shall judge what constitutes conduct requiring disciplinary action. Disciplinary action may include reprimand, suspension, or expulsion from the Club. Disciplinary actions of any type require a two-thirds majority vote by the Bridge.

Key Principles

Membership of PSC is a privilege that must be safeguarded by the following principles:

  • ·         The PSC seeks to operate in an environment where people show respect for others and their property.  Respect is defined as consideration for the well-being – whether of another’s person, emotions or possessions.
  • ·         The PSC operates in a non-discriminatory environment.  Club members are treated equally under the Club’s By-Laws, policies and guidance.

Unsuitable Behavior

  • ·         Knowingly discriminate against, abuse, or harass anyone covered by this Code of Conduct.
  • ·         Failure to treat all persons with respect, dignity or to properly regard their rights and privacy.
  • ·         Represent the Club without proper authorization by the Club.
  • ·         Assault, or act with aggression toward any other person is prohibited.
  • ·         Intentionally damage or fail to report accidental damage to Club property or Club-related property such as chartered vessels.
  • ·         Consume alcohol or non-prescription drugs while underway or operating a PSC Club or chartered vessel.

THIS POLICY RESOLUTION WAS ADOPTED BY A MAJORITY ELECTRONIC E-MAIL VOTE OF 2015 PSC BRIDGE ON 14 FEB 2015.
