The River Skipper Program is designed to train members to confidently skipper a PSC Social Sails and Women on the Water (WoW) Sails with up to four crew on our Catalina 22's out of JBAB Capitol Cover Marina. As a river skipper your fee for social sails is waived and as a volunteer you can submit for Frequent Volunteer Sea Miles (FVSM) that gives you discounts of other PSC events.

As a River Skipper you will:

  • Train with experienced skippers as you work towards your requirements.
  • Gain experience sailing the Catalina 22's and learning about he boats.
  • Build communications skills to lead a crew for a sail on the River.
  • Provide instructions and safety/weather briefings to the crew.
  • Assign crew duties and get the boat underway.
  • Provide direction, guidance and training to the crew while underway.
  • Return the crew and boat safely to the skip.
  • At the end of the day, have a crew that has had a great day on the water, and is ready to go sailing again.
